IYDA was invited to an exclusive community evening view at the British Museum on Saturday 1st July,2023 from 18:30 – 20:50 for Luxury and Power Persia to Greece and China’s hidden century.

IYDA’s Sizdahbedar will be on the 1st April 2023.

IYDA invited its young people to get together to share their ideas for the upcoming year and to go along and have their say at Mycenae House on Saturday 4th of March 2023 at 2pm.

From the youth consultation session, management committee established some key areas of focus:

1- EATING WELL- We address food inequalities and food justice, with particular attention to the challenges in Asian & Muslim communities around access and the stigma around reaching out for help (Muslim families have the highest rates of generational poverty in the UK). We are keen to continue and develop our work to bring ethnically appropriate food and cooking skills for our members, with consideration to nutrition, wellness and cost. 

2- MOVING WELL – We always include many sports and physical wellness activities in order to promote team building, reduce stress, improve confidence and self esteem and bring a sense of belonging and achievement. We would offer weekly indoor and outdoor football, basketball, rounders as well as indoor dance and performance. We are interested in mindfulness, meditation and yoga to also support mental health and wellbeing. 

3- CONNECT WELL: We provide culturally appropriate activities and  events that give an accessible space and place for members to celebrate key festivals, these include Nowruz (New Year) and Seezdeh Bedar which runs from 20 March – 2 April (thereabouts every year), Yalda (winter solstice festival). 

4- TRAIN WELL: We offer skills and training opportunities by providing a ladder of learning to support younger members to volunteer and share skills and formalise some of these to support their next steps, this also includes a buddying and mentoring approach. We have a strong alumni and three generations of members who have benefited from this provision (80% of our volunteer led Management Committee is made up of children and young people who have gained life long learning and employment skills).  

This year’s AGM was via zoom, on the 11th February 2023. A new MC elected. The new roles are:

Finance/ Treasurer – Farah Caswell
Marketing & Comms – Shahin Narouei-Nosrati
Secretary – Mariam Zahedi
